Topology optimisation of friction under-platform dampers using moving morphable components and the efficient global optimization algorithm

Under-platform dampers (UPDs) are traditionally used in aircraft engines to reduce the risk of high cycle fatigue. By introducing friction system, vibrations at resonance damped. However, UDPs also source nonlinear behaviours making analysis and design such components complex. The shape has a substantial impact on damping performances, topology optimisation is seldomly utilised—particularly for structures. In present work, we numerical approach optimise order minimise vibration amplitude peak. proposed based moving morphable framework parametrise damper topology, efficient global algorithm employed optimisation. results demonstrate relevance an presence friction. New geometries identified few iterations algorithm, illustrating efficiency approach. Results show that most geometry divides by 3, corresponds lower mass (80%) smaller frequency shift compared non-optimised case. More generally, different analysed tools clustering proposed. Different clusters compared. Thus, more general conclusions can be obtained. specifically, correspond increase length contact surface. Physically, it reduction initial normal pressure, which implies points enter stick/slip earlier, bringing damping. how identify layouts components.
